Copland in Paris

Of the many misconceptions regarding Aaron Copland's early career in Paris, one involves his teacher there, Nadia Boulanger.

In his 1980 interview, Copland dispels the myth that he went to France specifically to study with her. He points out that he didn't even know who Boulanger was when he arrived and discusses his work prior to signing up for her classes.

Following his remarks, a 1999 performance by the Tanglewood Music Center Orchestra of the final two movements from Copland's Third Symphony.
