  • This week, Morgan Wallen's I'm the Problem sits at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart again. But the two titles just below it are making the most noise: Conan Gray's Wishbone and KPop Demon Hunters, which pulls off something no soundtrack has ever accomplished.
  • Kendrick Lamar won his rap war with Drake last year by just about any measure, but this week, Drake got a small measure of revenge when his new album, $ome $exy $ongs 4 U, knocks Lamar out of the No. 1 spot on the Billboard charts.

  • "Nemesis" is less about being jazz or rock than it is about providing a sonic environment. Pianist Aaron Parks adds some contrasting touches: A mellotron and glockenspiel combine with piano and keyboards to create his own episodic drama. Coming from an album with the appropriate title Invisible Cinema, this is soundtrack music for a movie waiting to be filmed.
  • To cover a song by the great Jackie Wilson takes a lot of gumption, not to mention a lot of voice. But since Ryan Shaw says people are always comparing him to Wilson, he figured he might as well try one of the late soul singer's classics ("I'll Be Satisfied") on his debut album.
  • "Little Red Radio" isn't the most upbeat moment on Magic Kids' debut album, Memphis, but it gets the point across. With jangly guitars and boyish vocals leading the way, there's not an abrasive sound in sight. The hook comes on so fast, it's easy to miss, especially since so much candied instrumentation comes before and after it.
  • Monteverdi's 1607 masterpiece Orfeo is based on the ancient legend of Orpheus and Eurycdice.
  • A shot of pure joy to start off the weekend: a charming video of kids from Cork, Ireland, rapping about finding and following their creative voice.
  • A look back at the extraordinary creative souls we lost in 2018, from producer Richard Swift and opera singer Montserrat Caballé to rapper Mac Miller and Aretha Franklin.
