On April 8 and 9, the Missouri Symphony performed its first-ever film score playalong to Dreamworks' How to Train Your Dragon.

This isn’t Berk. It’s Columbia.

But if you asked attendees of the recent Missouri Theatre performances of DreamWorks’ How to Train Your Dragon, they would have grounds to argue. Orchestral performances accompanying film screenings has been a growing trend in performance art.

Classical 90.5’s Charlie Dahlgren reports on the Missouri Symphony’s massive first movie performance and how this style of orchestral concert connects to younger audiences.

Dahlgren spoke to the Missouri Theatre's Director of Events Kyla Dunn, the Missouri Symphony's conductor, Wilbur Lin, and orchestra manager, Adrian Gomez about putting the concert together. He also spoke to Annie Whitaker, a University of Missouri senior creating promotional media content for the College of Arts and Science about the performance. Additionally, he heard from MU student attendees Rachel Derner and Addison Sextonson.
